I understand these threads can be frustrating, but I've searched extensively over the past two weeks and haven't found anyone who actually implemented this change. I need an objective viewpoint to help me decide which setting to adjust so I can truly benefit from the 3D cache. In short: my system is a 5950X. I’ve used my PC for at least two years (VRChat), and I’m confident that using a 3Dcache CPU will bring significant performance improvements—more than worth the effort. Should I sacrifice the eight cores for better cache, DDR5 support, and higher clock speeds? Or should I go with the 7950X3D? My main concerns: I play VRChat extensively, which has shown clear gains with 3DCache CPUs, making this a solid upgrade. I prefer moving to an AM5 board now so I can take advantage of its lower power draw and avoid long-term board changes. I’m not doing heavy production work anymore; instead, I’d rather switch platforms to an AM5-based build and only buy a new CPU in the future. I also want my next upgrade to focus solely on the CPU, not the motherboard or RAM. Long story short—I play a lot of VRChat more than any other game, and that’s proven to deliver real performance benefits with 3Dcache CPUs. I’m not sure if I’m still the right candidate for this jump, but I think the 7800X3D is a great fit given my current usage. The main drawback would be losing eight cores, but if it means better power efficiency and smoother multitasking, it could be worth it. I’d rather avoid the 5800X3D because it feels like a compromise too soon after its release. The 7950X3D seems tempting, but unless dropping the eight cores noticeably hurts my everyday performance, I’m leaning toward the 7800X3D. In games, performance remains similar since the boost clocks stay close and only a few cores are used. Most people don’t run heavy tasks like rendering or editing, so the 7800X3D keeps up well. If you occasionally edit videos, the 7800X3D still offers solid speed, comparable to a 10-core Ryzen 5850X setup. 7950x3D isn't really a good choice given the problems people have faced with it. For a gaming CPU, 7800x3D is sufficient. With AM5 you can always upgrade to the latest X3D processor and stay up-to-date for years to come. Also, consider if you're experiencing issues in VR chat—it might not be necessary unless you're using it heavily. If you're just chatting in VR, it probably isn't worth the effort.

There are methods I know about to direct VRChat onto the right 8 cores, but making that happen for every app felt...annoying. I understood in games (especially VRChat) that performance is often a tight balance without a clear champion. One trick I was aware of was using software to push non-VRChat programs like Discord, Firefox, or Steam onto the non-VCache CCD. Yet, I haven’t seen anyone actually try it or confirm it makes a big difference. In terms of cost, the 7800x3d will be pricier because I’d need a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM, lol. Offline testing of the 5800x3d and 7800x3d showed me I’d rather switch platforms. I’m leaning toward getting a first-gen AM5 and a later or near-last-gen AM5. That seemed like the smartest long-term choice. Maybe. We’ll find out. I wouldn’t say it’s worth it, though. The question asks about the GPU utilization. If it's already full, cutting CPU time won't make a difference because you're limited by the GPU.

I don't recall the exact numbers, but my GPU usage stays under 60% consistently. VRChat on my setup is completely CPU-intensive. I'm pretty sure my current machine, especially for VRChat, is limited by the CPU. No room for doubt here—VRChat really does tax the processor.
