Hey, this sounds like a tough decision but let's break it down. You're currently using an AMD 1700 for most work and only a bit for gaming. Last year you swapped it out for a 2080, and despite the older CPU, you haven’t felt any lag. You’re already running Elden Ring in 4K without issues, and your VR games like Valve Index are smooth even at high settings.

You’re thinking about upgrading to a newer GPU or doing a full PC overhaul. The 1700 is still performing well for its age, so maybe the upgrade isn’t necessary unless you want better performance for those VR experiences. If you go for the CPU upgrade to a 3800X, it might help with gaming, but it could also increase power consumption.

Upgrading everything at once sounds expensive—around 1500€ for parts and possibly more for storage upgrades. It’s worth considering whether the extra cost would really make a difference in your daily tasks or if you’d be better off sticking with what you have.

Maybe focus on optimizing your current setup first, like adjusting settings, using power-saving modes, or exploring lighter workloads before jumping into a big upgrade.

200€ for a 3800X sounds expensive when you see other shops offering the 5800X between 220€ and 230€, and it offers a much stronger CPU. The Ryzen 7 5700X is nearly as powerful as the 5800X but costs around 180€. If your motherboard supports the 5000 series, you might want to check for BIOS updates before buying the 3800X. In my opinion, getting the 5700X would be a better choice since it will outperform the 3800X significantly at that price point.

The 3000 series is the newest version my motherboard handles, and if I upgrade the motherboard, I’ll upgrade all of it.

The board is compatible with the 5000 series; simply update the BIOS for the 5600 model.

You might receive a 5800x3d display if you're playing, or 5959/5900 for a workstation setup on that board.

It's great to hear! The 3000 series does appear to be the latest supported for X370 boards, especially since the 4000 series isn't. Now you're weighing the 5800x3d against the 5900x—choosing the 5900x seems sensible because you'll be handling more intensive tasks than just gaming, and the performance boost in 4K should be negligible.

It wasn't a major development, just a few APUs here and there.

Upgrade your system by refreshing the BIOS to the newest version.
Choose a Ryzen 5600, 5700X, or 5800X3D processor.
This should boost performance and unlock better profit potential.
