In my experience windows 10 runs worst than windows 8.1, I much prefer windows 7 and 8.1 over 10.I drop at least 5-15 FPS depending on the game when using windows 10, I like how it looks put its just not finished in my opinion, so i'll have to advise you not to upgrade to 10. By bare bone apps do you mean drivers and stuff? If so than i recommend finding all the drivers needed once and than saving them, to onedrive or something for future use.

I’m focusing on the core apps that come with Windows 8.1 from ASUS. What you can remove is anything unnecessary, and the essentials are the ones needed for basic use.

You can eliminate most of them, except for items like the mouse app since it might interfere with the trackpad. While I was cleaning out unnecessary files from my HP laptop, I looked up the name before deleting and removed anything I didn’t need.
