I’m thinking about whether to upgrade the motherboard or not. My goal is to push performance as high as possible—so I plan to use all 32GB of RAM currently supported. I’m also considering switching to a Ryzen 9 5950X, which should work with my board since it’s the best option they offer. My current Gigabyte board seems to be from an older chipset, which makes me wonder if it’s worth replacing. I’ve heard that moving to DDR-5 RAM would give a noticeable boost, but I’m not sure how much of a difference it would make. Initially, a 5950X seems pointless on an A-series motherboard, particularly with a B350 chipset. Upgrading the board is essential if you aim to get the most out of a Ryzen 5000 processor. The B550 option is clearly the better choice now. It’s hard to imagine the 5950X functioning properly on such a basic platform. VRMs are likely to fail soon. Secondly, the GPU (4060Ti) isn’t worth the investment. You can upgrade it for around $50 and get a stronger card like the ASRock Phantom Gaming D OC Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB, which will outperform the 4060Ti in every situation. Alternatively, the 7700XT or even the older 6750XT would also perform well for nearly half the price.
5950x isn't designed for gaming, opt for the 5700x3D instead—it's more affordable and performs better than the 5950x in that category. Dual CCD Ryzen CPUs aren't justified for gaming purposes. The board supports 5700x3D. Regardless of your choice, spending extra on AM4 isn't worth it; keep things as they are and consider AM5. Unless you're limited by budget, switch to AM5 and look into the 7800x3D or newer models soon.
