Your setup runs well with the current components. Upgrading to an I7-9700K won’t significantly improve performance unless you’re targeting very high-end gaming. The difference in games will likely be minimal, as your CPU is already strong for most titles.

In games? Unlikely, probably. Just skip the 9700k. If you want an upgrade, a used 8700k would be great.

No need, overclocked you're already in the top tier of gaming chips, won't see much benefit in those cases. Something you might consider is delidding, which will significantly improve temps and allow for higher clock speeds.

Look into your CPU performance during games—if it stays at 95-100% all the time, a 9700K could help. Unless you mainly play Battlefield 5, which actually works well with 8 cores or more (and your GTX 1080 should handle it), you probably won’t see much change. Even with an overclocked 8600K, the difference should be minimal.

I changed my GPU from 8600K to 9700K, then to 9900K. It wasn’t a huge jump except in demanding games like Ghost Recon Wildlands. Others suggested I shouldn’t go for 9700K now. If you think the missing hyperthreading is limiting you, maybe a 8700K would be better. I upgraded from 9700K to 9900K because I found good deals on used CPUs, making it a smart choice.
