I've been using a 9600k + RTX 3070 setup for about seven months. I was wondering if upgrading the CPU would be a good idea. I mainly play at 1440p at 144Hz, mostly AAA games like RDR2, Valhalla, and Re8, and everything runs smoothly with solid FPS. Some people suggest upgrading, but I'm not sure if it's necessary. What do others with 9600k/8600k or 3060 Ti/3070/3070 Ti experiences say?

This sounds like a reason to not upgrade. There's no reason to upgrade something that does what you want it to just because other people think you should. If that makes sense. Unless you want to spend the money.

consider opting for the latest generation processor instead of a more costly older model. You might not need an upgrade unless you encounter a performance limitation.

If you're questioning the value of an upgrade, it seems unlikely it's worthwhile. I suggest extracting the best value from your existing CPU, particularly because you're satisfied with its current performance.

Wait for the upcoming CPUs to release. The 3070 is handling most tasks at 1440p.

These individuals recommend upgrading to a higher-end processor. They believe a 9600k remains adequate as a 6/6 CPU, while an 8/16 would offer better performance without extra necessity for the current resolution.

I’ve switched from a 9600K to a 5900X recently. For casual gaming, the 9600K works just fine. Sure, my card is only a 2060 Super, but I haven’t seen much change in performance when switching to 1440p, especially in AAA titles like Control. As a gamer, I ran several games with the same settings to check for differences. Mostly, there wasn’t a noticeable gap. For Control, averaging over three tries gave me around 70.4 to 69.6 FPS, with lows between 53 and 26 FPS. The 5900X + 2060S setup averaged about 69.6 FPS, also with similar lows. In general, at 1440p, both setups perform similarly. The only real difference was in Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, where the 9600K took longer to launch—about 30 seconds versus a few minutes for the 5900X. That’s a clear improvement, but it didn’t affect gameplay much. I don’t think upgrading is worth it unless you want a tiny edge. Just use those extra 90 seconds to grab a water bottle from

What? It's 6/6! What kind of motherboard are you using? The 9900K works well only if it's affordable and your board has solid VRM.
