I received a call from a friend who wants to visit his business to inspect some cameras. He’s using a mix of fisheye and bullet cameras, all analog, and the setup is a Nuvico brand but there’s no clear model or info about the DVR system. Most of the equipment is over 15 years old, and more than half isn’t functioning. This week I plan to research further to see if upgrading with new gear is feasible. I’d like suggestions on camera systems he might prefer. Personally, I’d favor a PoE setup for centralized management, but I’m open to hearing others’ opinions too.

I've really liked Axis for a while now—they're excellent budget-friendly network cameras.

I'm not familiar with those products, but they seem to be priced higher than similar models like Ubiquiti's offerings.

They offer a range of camera gear from analog to digital, including cameras, phones, drones, and recorders. I've set up several in various businesses and was pleasantly surprised by their performance. Some older models are still functioning well after about four to five years, and they're quite affordable.

Another positive feedback for dahua, their price-to-performance is excellent. Their low-light cameras are among the top I've encountered. They also offer the advantage of supporting up to 4K at 15fps using a coax cable—something rarely found in analog gear. I reused an old structure with 3MP cameras without having to strip the existing cables, saving significant time and expenses. Compared to another project where we relied on Axis with coax to Ethernet adapters, which cost around 200-300 per set, dahua proved much more economical.

They really stand out on paper for the cost. Also, since the BNC coax is already installed, it would save a lot of time. I’d definitely replace some connectors, and it would halve my work effort. I’m really excited about this!

When using Dahua, consider these points. - Maintain full Dahua control; Onvif may vary in reliability across brands. Dahua ensures no concerns. - Plugins support cameras and recorders if configured through the browser. Either use the old IE.exe or install the Chrome app (prompts appear when viewing with Chrome). - Dahua offers a free P2P service, but you must accept its terms via a connected screen on the NVR. It won't function through the browser (latest updates).

Yes, the P2P service is accessible via an application.

Both Android (gDMSS) and iPhone (iDMSS) work alongside a PC client used for configuration and diagnostics (SmartPSS), which supports peer-to-peer networking.

Axis stands out as the leading choice for security cameras, offering reliable performance. Their equipment is solid, and the software functions smoothly. However, it often comes with a higher price tag. We currently use Axis systems in our operations, and setting them up and managing them is straightforward.
