In 8 years I’ll upgrade my 4770K and Z87 setup. It’s still useful but no longer matches my requirements. Earlier I assembled a gaming rig and now I’m aiming for a workstation that occasionally runs games. I secured a used 3700X from a friend, marking my first AMD purchase in about a decade. My future involves setting up virtual networks for personal training (my day job is sysadmin), so ample RAM is essential. I also need IOMMU support to route GPUs into VMs and ECC memory for reliable storage redundancy. Dependability matters, along with 8 SATA ports, IPMI, 10G networking, Wi-Fi, and good value. Budget-wise I’m targeting around $360, so options near that range are ideal. I prioritize functionality over price and plan to keep this system through 2030.

maybe asrock rack line up because it was the sole genuine server/workstation motherboard for the third-gen Ryzen. though it’s a bit pricey and a little over your budget, there’s an asus proart option that fits your budget but only offers 4 sata ports. another choice you might like is the gigabyte b550 vision 3x pcie board.

The Asus board supports 8 SATA connections, though you’ll need a specific cable for the U.2 port. It wasn’t obvious what that cable was since "U.2" is quite vague. I believe you’ll need a SFF-8643 to 4 SATA cable. https://www.amazon.com/CableCreation-Int...B01B1IVEM2 The ASUS Pro WS X570-ACE seems like the best fit at the moment. The Asrock models feel too server-oriented for my requirements—no USB-C on the back and while I don’t require advanced audio, I do need some. The eight SATA ports are impressive, but without them I’d have to install a custom card for all 8 devices and keep my PCIe slots free for more exciting projects.
