I'm gathering info for a fresh video editing/production team. We're starting from zero and need to handle 4K raw files for four iMac Pro clients without proxies. We'll eventually add a transcoding server likely using Threadripper hardware. Requirements: 12 ports, each 10GB. The Netgear XS724EM seems a bit heavy—should I suggest something lighter?

Search online marketplaces for second-hand items. You might find significant savings on outdated equipment or businesses looking to reduce waste by selling old inventory.

The number of ports you require influences the type of switch you should consider.

Haha, I was thinking about future-proofing across 12 ports, but I wasn’t fully awake. Either way, here are some alternatives based on your needs. Brand new units are quite pricey—think big £££/$$$. If you’re not set on new gear, check the used market; these switches are solid 10GBASE-T models with 36 ports, some SFP+ support, and combo ports. Options include Arista 7050T-36, Cisco SG350XG-2F10, SG350XG-24T, D-Link DXS-1210-12TC, DXS-1210-16TC, Netgear XS724EM.
