It comes without prior expansions and includes multiplayer features. Whether it’s worth it depends on your needs. Is it suitable for your use case?

It's a solid game – the campaign is great, though it feels a little overused.

It's a one-time purchase with ongoing play value, and the MP is included. Worth it? That's uncertain—I haven't even tried Heart of the Swarm yet and am holding off until a Battlechest release covers all three.

For multiplayer options? Yes. If you like MP RTS titles, there are numerous varied gameplay styles. Arcade offers countless modded or custom maps. The classic format is the Ladder mode, available in two versions: Ranked and Unranked. Ranked functions as a competitive tournament system where players join leagues based on their performance—Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Masters, Grand Masters. Points are earned through victories and lost through defeats. Higher win counts boost your rank, eventually moving you into higher tiers. If you prefer not to engage with the league structure—which tracks wins, losses, and progress—Unranked mode offers no such metrics. It ignores losses. You can still compete against AI or friends in custom matches. There’s also the fresh "Co-Op" missions, blending elements from multiple single-player campaigns across the three SC2 titles, but these are designed for two players working together. To succeed, you should experience both Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm, or watch a comprehensive Let's Play video on YouTube Seriously. This will give you a solid grasp of the story before diving in. I’ve completed the Wings of Liberty campaign multiple times, am currently replaying another, and plan to finish HotS before moving on to Legacy of the Void. For gear, check Battle.Net for the SC2 battle chest—available for $60 USD, bundling Wings, HotS, and LotV. Alternatively, Wing and HotS are priced at $20 each, while LotV costs $40.

If I hadn’t already had WoL, I’d have grabbed the BattleChest immediately. I’ll purchase them separately because I tend to feel odd when buying a bundle that includes a game I already own. With Blizzard, you can’t resell the game key for WoL after purchasing online since it’s automatically added to your account. I’m really looking forward to wrapping up the story! I’ve been eager for this since the original release in 1998.
