Consider the M.2 slots that suit your needs best.
I'm setting up the proart x670e creator WiFi with a 7800x3d 4090 PCI 4th Gen M.2 SSD and two older M.2 drives. I've heard some advice about placing M.2 drives on the CPU, which might affect PCI lanes used by the GPU. I'm trying to decide which slot is best for my high-performance drive and my slower drives. The manual lists several options:
- Slot 1: PCIE 5 x4
- Slot 2: PCIE 5 x4
- Slot 3: PCIE 4 x4
- Slot 4: PCIE 4 x4
It mentions that Slot 3 shares bandwidth with a PCIe x16 slot, but I don't plan to use the lower expansion slot soon. My idea is to put the faster drive in Slot 1 for speed, while keeping the slower drives elsewhere. I'm a bit confused by the instructions and the FAQ links—it doesn't make much sense. Could you help clarify this?
Begin with slot 1, then continue filling as you receive more drives. Simple.
The B650 board is significantly stronger than my z370. It has more layers on the PCB and less flex. Surprisingly, most people can handle their 4090s, but they usually weigh around 60-70 pounds.
