I purchased a Dlink Des 1008A 8-port switch, which was the most affordable option I found. Now I need to connect two PCs and a laptop through it. Should I worry about using a straight or crossed cable?

I know the question has already been answered, but fun fact, all gigabit network interfaces support Auto-MDIX (unless specifically disabled via software). The switching technology to make that feature work is required for a 1000BASE-T, so they all can. Some high-end 100 mbs interfaces (which hasn't been a thing in decades) had the feature, but considering 100BASE-T used discrete send and receive paths, adding Auto-MDIX required functionality not otherwise needed, so it was typically not included.
