It depends on the current price and expected future cost. With a 4th gen i5, adding new RAM now might not be necessary unless prices are rising sharply. Check the latest offers and consider timing based on your upgrade plans.
I mostly aim to purchase a 3600Mhz, 16GB RAM like TridentZ RGB Neo 3600 and cl16, currently priced around 135$ in my country (Poland).
Consider enhancing now with a solid motherboard option. Use an affordable CPU placeholder until you find your preferred new CPU.
It's also an option, though I'm hesitant due to the expected Nvidia Ampere performance improvement (likely not as significant as 40%). I believe stocking up on placeholders isn't worth it since my current configuration already performs well and offers solid frame rates in the games I play.
