You're questioning whether the bottleneck lies in the CPU, likely the RAM, and considering upgrades for better performance. The 3700X might be limiting your experience in CPU-heavy games like Overwatch 2, causing FPS drops. Looking at alternatives in the 5000 series could help, though the AM5 socket means you'd need a compatible upgrade like a MOBO.

You should monitor your CPU usage during gameplay, not just the overall percentage. Keep an eye on each thread’s activity to understand its behavior. If one thread stays at 100% consistently, that’s likely the issue. Even though the 3700X is capable, it might be the reason you’re experiencing sub-100 performance. The GPU load should remain manageable if you run Overwatch at 1440p—higher resolution increases GPU demand without raising CPU usage much. If you consider upgrading, a 5700 offers a solid improvement (Zen2 to Zen3 provided a notable boost). Decide based on your budget and performance needs.

ZEN 3 (5000) offers up to 25 percent more performance with identical clocks. Paired with higher boost clocks, it provides a noticeable increase in FPS. If you prefer not to overhaul everything, the 5800X3D is a better choice. Regarding RAM, there’s minimal gain for FPS improvements. For demanding memory tasks, yes; however, gaming benefits are modest—possibly just a few frames per second. If you’re prepared to invest in RAM, opt for 3600 CL16 modules. Honestly, unless you need the highest possible frame rate, it might be better to upgrade to Intel 13th or Ryzen 7000 instead.
