Consider shifting to a mobile option?
My current setup is around 4 to 5 years old, and Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop are running a bit sluggishly. After some testing, it appears everything is functioning properly, but an upgrade might be necessary soon. I’m using an Intel i5-9400F, a G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2666 RAM, a 2 TB M.2 SSD, and a couple of 1 TB HDDs for backup and long-term storage, plus a GeForce rx570 graphics card.
I’m considering a portable option for travel or casual use at home. I don’t play games much and mainly edit around 50 MB raw files. I’m eyeing the ASUS ROG flow x16. Bestbuy has the 16 GB RAM version with an i9 processor and a 4060 card for about $1800. Based on what I see, upgrading to 64 GB should put me in a strong position. Although ASUS isn’t the most popular brand, it’s the only one that meets my needs so far. Using it as a tablet with a stylus would be ideal.
I’ve thought about switching to Apple, but the iPad can’t run full Adobe apps, and the laptops don’t have touch screens for styluses.
Other portable solutions I’m considering include:
- Any alternative for a table-style or touchscreen laptop?
- The Surface Pro Table is great, but without a GPU it’s not ideal.
- The Surface Studio 2 is available but quite pricey and reportedly overheats easily.
- Is it worth keeping the slower desktop as a storage device, or should I move to the x16 with a 1 TB drive and handle data management separately?
- How often do you plan to upgrade or build new rigs? (about 4 to 5 years?)
Consider using your Galaxy tablet as a secondary display alongside your Windows PC via the Second screen app.

One of my friends relies solely on his Tab S9+ for photo editing with the stylus, though it doesn’t fully replicate the PC experience. He appreciates how the stylus simplifies outlining and painting.
