Hi All,
I hope everything is fine. I own an old laptop, the HP Probook G1 430, which is over 12 years old. It works well, but the battery seems almost dead. I’m trying to find a replacement, though I’m curious about the quality of "brand new" batteries on sale. They mention that these might have gone through maintenance cycles (usually 1-3) to stay in good shape. I don’t think there are any truly brand new batteries available for these models. What do you think?

Nothing by name brand will be useful anymore, almost useless right now. It's better to find a highly rated aftermarket alternative and accept it won't last long or perform well.

many batteries are considered compatible rather than original. They are brand new but come with an older casing. Check the voltage and capacity values.

I recommend considering a new laptop right now. With a 4200U processor and Windows 10 as the final supported OS from Microsoft, which is ending this year, it's likely that most current laptops won't work with your hardware. If you've already upgraded to Windows 10, almost any laptop you purchase today—even at the lower end—will perform better.

Finding a functional backup battery is likely the most cost-effective option in the long run and also the most eco-friendly. However, if you intend to link it to the internet, you should abandon any Windows version—W10 won’t be supported anymore and W11 doesn’t handle hardware updates.
