I made updates to Windows today and checked the settings. It looks like you can remove earlier versions. Deleting them lets you free up about 230GB, though your HDD is almost full. Once done, you won’t be able to go back. Should I take that risk? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Thanks, Lewis

It mainly depends on your intention to revert to a previous operating system. If you don’t intend to go back, you’d likely discard any outdated versions.

Keep it until you actually require the HDD capacity, since unexpected issues can arise and you might need to revert. Likely Windows will remove the previous setup after 30 to 90 days.

Right now, the main reason to revert to an earlier version is if you don’t like the current interface. Experiment with it a little before removing it, and confirm you’re comfortable with Windows 10.

If you don’t want to revert to an older operating system, proceed with removing them immediately. To complete this process efficiently without any remaining files, perform a fresh installation of the desired OS. Safely back up all important data before shutting down the computer and disconnecting all drives except the C: drive. After confirming only the C: drive is connected, use a Windows Media Creation Tool to handle the rest. Remove existing partitions and set up just one partition for the C: drive.

I switched to Windows 10 some time ago—it was just a minor update. Today I made another change.

I never save old versions of Windows; I turn off system restore completely. There’s no point in using extra storage on my SSD—any issues just require a full reinstall and re-setup of my apps and preferences.

I don’t care much about a complete reset. Just needed a little help with space.

A fresh setup is the optimal choice to obtain the desired space without losing anything useful. With a clean installation, everything starts from scratch and is current.
