I am planning on build a new pc soon after my laptop died. I was going to wait for the ryzen 5 4600 when it comes out but after hearing about the new 3000 refresh, I am deciding if I should wait until September (new nvidia gpus) or I should wait until next year (presumably when ryzen 4000 comes out) Will waiting until ryzen 4000 comes out be worth the struggle without a pc or buy the refresh?

I question the upgrade will offer significant advantages over the latest Ryzen. It would be better to wait until Q3/4 for the Ryzen 4k and Nvidia 3k models.

December seems to be the best time, if you're willing to wait that much, opt for a 4000. Otherwise, consider getting a B550 motherboard (released in June) and a budget Ryzen or Athlon processor for around $50.

Updating BIOS for the 4th generation? Checking first. Otherwise, it seems you might need the XT.
