Consider purchasing Fallout 4 Rise of the Tomb Raider or Resident Evil.
I'm searching for a fresh gaming experience. I'm considering three titles and haven't played any of the new Tomb Raider releases yet. They seem visually appealing. I really enjoyed Skyrim, though it feels dated now. Fallout 3 got me a bit unimpressed initially, mostly due to graphics. Re4 and classic PS1 games are my favorites. Since I play on an ultra HD setup, Fallout and Resident Evil might not be optimized at 21:9. What are others thinking?
Rise of the Tomb Rider stands out as an excellent choice, particularly for 21:9 viewing. I recommend starting with Tomb Rider (2013) first—it offers solid 21:9 support, impressive visuals, and a great story. Then move on to Rise of the Tomb Rider to continue the narrative. If you prefer third-person perspectives, Tomb Raider is a solid alternative. Fallout feels dull and slow compared to what you enjoy, and I don’t recommend Resident Evil beyond the fourth entry, though it’s not terrible.
RE7 is an excellent choice for fans of horror. The game keeps you on your toes with its intense atmosphere, forcing tough decisions between fleeing or staying. The gameplay flow is well balanced, with enemies positioned to encourage exploration while maintaining tension through [REDACTED] alerts. Ammo is limited, so managing it carefully is essential—you might find yourself running low often if you waste it. A clever twist comes from the ability to inflict more damage by severing limbs, which slows enemies and lets you investigate further. Puzzles appear naturally rather than being forced, though some items only become available after exploring earlier sections. The experience runs around eight hours, making it suitable for a full session or a deep dive into the DLC. I strongly suggest playing through both the main content and any available expansions.
Tomb Raider titles follow a straight path with limited playtime. Fallout 4 offers more open exploration and if you rush through the main story, you can spend over 100 hours, especially with DLCs like Resident Evil 7. Personally, I find games that portray clichéd characters or overly crude settings off-putting. Generally, I prefer titles where protagonists aren’t stereotypical or unpleasant environments. Regarding Resident Evil 7, the female character we’re meant to protect had unappealing facial expressions that didn’t quite work.
It's just a matter of preference, but I'd rather enjoy The Witcher 3 for its extended playtime... Fallout seems to drag along, though it's fun on New Vegas Well if we look at it that way. Resident Evil is definitely a strong contender, but I found the Rise to be even more intense than the 2013 version.
That's a valid concern. Playing that game could really affect you, causing nightmares for a long time.
Fallout 4 is definitely one of my top picks if not the best. It offers an open world experience with RPG elements. The game can easily exceed 50 hours if you play through it thoroughly. I tend to prefer a more relaxed pace and exploring the open areas, which gives me deeper immersion in the setting and additional features. Resident Evil was a bit shorter but had some solid gameplay, especially in the horror aspects. It took me around 8 hours to finish, and I found it more intense compared to Fallout 4. While Resident Evil isn’t particularly scary, I appreciate the adrenaline rush it provides. I’m more drawn to open world or psychological horror experiences myself. I don’t have much experience with Tomb Raider, but I did play it briefly a few years ago. I’m not sure how to assist further—just that it seems fun, but I’m more into the other genres.
