Hey guys, been wondering what should i get or should i get anything at all. In 2019 when zen 2 launched i bought x570 aorus elite + 3600 + 16gb trident Z 3600mhz cl16, When zen 3 launched i upgraded cpu to 5800x. however in 2022-06 my combo died, not sure what happened however i got my money back because supplier didn't had anything to replace it. Kinda great i got 480eur back for 5800x while it now cost 280eur here in europe. I resorted in using my backup pc build which has E5 2699v3 which i got for 115eur, with turbo boost mod it works at 3.8ghz on all 18 cores 36 threads there are some games where its bottlenecks my card, but i have 3440x1440 monitor so in most cases i am gpu bound. Threadripper for cheap as you might say. I have RTX 3080 10gb Since 2021-01 and i am not planning to upgrade. Ive been waiting for zen 4. And when it launched prices were insane, 7600x cost 380eur and 7950x cost 900eur, now when intel took value crown prices dropped like a lot 7600x is now 264eur and 7950x is now 630eur(10eur cheaper than i9 13900k). And i am really tempted to pull trigger, however i wanted to wait for Zen 4 3D cpus. But i am not sure if its worth waiting, because knowing AMD if their cpu is fastest they will price it accordingly. Wouldn't be surprised if 7800x3D would cost as much as 7950x now. 13Th is great, and we all know why, cheaper platform, DDR4 and DDR5 support, more cores, better multiworload performance on par or only 5% worse in gaming if we take like 50 different games. However it has very high power consumption and no upgrade path at all. So considering these factors i am leaning towards Zen 4. B650 + 7600x + some 5200mhz ddr5 memory kit, from many reviews it seems ram speed doesn't really matter for zen 4 cpus and it might even matter less with 3D v cache memory chips later. So what do you think ? for a long run zen 4 worth it ? or should i just wait for 3D v cache cpus which might be far more expensive
I’d wait for the game to start. Zen 4 looks cheaper if Zen4X3D comes out, and both Mobo and DDR5 seem really high right now. The Mobo setup is also not great from a user standpoint—right now you need to flash the BIOS, and I think updates will happen every couple of weeks for a few months. The platform is quite unstable at the moment.
Unless you prefer delaying a year, gather information because present boards have firmware problems. These are early models on the AM5 platform and might not perform well when superior boards become available (improved RAM designs, resolved bugs, etc.)
Have you thought about holding off for the non-X releases (they’re expected soon)?
