I recently enhanced my gaming setup with a 6900 XT and am considering a CPU upgrade. I bought a B550 motherboard and am deciding between the 5600X and 5800X. Since I mainly use my PC for 1440p gaming, is there a clear advantage to spending more than $100 extra on the 5800X? Could using the 5600X limit my graphics performance? I aim for the most future-proof option, but I know returns are getting smaller.
I don't have that information right now. Could you share your current CPU, motherboard, and RAM specifications?
I used to run an i7 7700k but switched to AMD now. I bought the ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming-ITX G.Skill TridentZ RGB Series 32GB.
It's the 5800X, though it tends to get pretty warm. What other options do you have?
Your setup uses a Corsair SF750 Platinum with an EK-AIO 280 D-RGB, which typically consumes moderate power. The EK-AIO 280 draws around 60-80W depending on brightness settings.
I also have a 5600X, which is a nice CPU. Don't let anyone say it's outdated because it has just six cores. If you're mainly playing games and don't spend too much time on intensive tasks, it's more than sufficient. But if you could make better use of the extra cores, you'll notice more cache, higher speeds, and it will run a bit hotter.
