Consider Intel's 13th generation or get the 12th generation now?
Hi im looking to upgrade from a Ryzen 5 5600x. Ill be using it for solidworks, matlab, c++ compiling, fortran compiling. And ofc some gaming, mainly csgo, dota, tf2.(all on low setting for max fps) Currently looking at the i7 12700kf My main question is, will there be a big increase in efficiency from 12th gen to 13th gen? I would prefer to go with intel due to the fortran compiler, and due to the massive amount of weird issues ive had with ryzen. Thanks
Are you looking to upgrade immediately? Consider the 12th generation or Ryzen options, especially with your AM4 board. You could hold off a while—check the Ryzen 7000 and 13th gen releases first. Does the 5600X meet your requirements? You don’t need an upgrade right now.
I purchased the 5600x after taking a year off and just needed a PC for gaming. Now I’m returning to work, but it doesn’t perform well in SolidWorks or during compilation. I’m starting again in September so I can wait until mid-October, though that’s pushing it.
The latest generation is probably still coming soon. The Ryzen 7000 will drop next month, so it's best to grab it now
You're already running at a high frequency, so jumping to a newer generation might not be necessary. Consider adding another chip like a 5700X, 5800X, or 5900X on your current board. If you're eager to upgrade, simply upgrade your CPU without replacing the whole system.
I’m looking to switch to Intel because the software runs smoother there, especially with the programs I rely on. I’ve faced many problems with Ryzen on my gaming setup, but I’m fine handling those on a gaming PC, not for everyday tasks.
