If you're just starting out, yes Kaspersky is great for beginners...but maybe not for experts.

Purchasing antivirus programs isn't worth it. Try free Malware Bytes and consider Security Essentials for background protection on Windows 8.1

Avoid purchasing antivirus software. Avast is my preferred choice. Don’t forget to try CCleaner as well.

there aren't any solid free options that can build confidence for beginners. i've used kaspersky for about 35 dollars a year across three licenses.

Make sure you install an antivirus, there are several options available that are free and effective. The ones mentioned earlier include links to them. Microsoft Security Essentials Malware Bytes are among them. I personally favor purchasing higher-quality antivirus solutions like the ones below. I’ve used both for my needs and they perform well. However, I opted for the paid versions now. I still use Malwarebytes but have upgraded to the paid edition. Webroot SecureAnywhere and Emsisoft are also worth considering.

Utilize Windows Defender as the built-in security tool in Windows 8.1. Install a free version of Malwarebytes and enable the Web Of Trust browser extension for added protection.

Kaspersky or Norton 360?
Both offer strong protection, but choose based on your needs and region.
