Hey guys, I built myself a new PC earlier in the year and bought a copy of windows 7 with it, I have upgraded to windows 10 but soon I will be upgrading to a new PC all together and not sure if i should buy a new copy of windows 10 or not, I have seen somewhere that I can download windows 10 from http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-.../windows10 on to USB and used that for a clean install then use my windows 7 product code and inform Microsoft that I have upgraded cpu and motherboard. Is this true?

It won't function, as it would mean getting another free Windows install and Microsoft wouldn't tolerate that!

Set up 7 on the latest machine using the provided key. Observe whether activation occurs occasionally, and if so, consider upgrading.

Thanks! I was wondering if the Windows 7 key would still function on Windows 10. I followed the trick suggested by TechGuru, but I’m hoping it works. If not, I might need to upgrade both systems at once.

You can purchase a budget version of Windows 7 and upgrade if needed. This saves around $60 compared to buying a full Windows 10 license.

Please note this discussion may violate COC guidelines. However, I wanted to verify it helped you. It did save me from purchasing a second copy of Windows.
