Hey everyone, I'm considering a CPU upgrade for Christmas. Right now I have an i5 7500, GTX 1060 with 6GB and 16GB RAM, Corsair 550W power supply, and was thinking about switching to an i5 9400f. Some Reddit users recommended the Ryzen 3600 or 3600X instead. Would it make sense to go for one of those? I've also heard they tend to get hot, so how can I keep them cool? And will my current PSU still handle everything?

Not VS? The 3600 offers more similarity to the locked 9700/8700 models. It outperforms the 9400F in every aspect. Even a high-performance 212 black works well—it gets hot due to the concentrated heat source, not because of a large output (not even 100W).

PSU provides ample power. CPU: Choose a 3600—it's the top choice for gaming and offers great multithreading performance.

The number 2600 is chosen because it offers a balance, while 3600 might seem better for long-term planning.

No problem, just confirming the Corsair CX 550W PSU. Should be sufficient. Right now it seems closer to 3600, but I'll check further before I start work.

You can upgrade the 2600 quite well for a lower price. Invest that money into other components such as a higher-end graphics card with improved VRAM, more or better RAM, faster storage like SSDs instead of HDDs, and better cooling for your GPU. Gaming doesn’t require eight cores—just a solid setup will get you going.

I’m not sure about alternatives, but I’m happy to hear you’re thinking this way.

That's a solid observation, I agree. I'll definitely take it into account. Thanks!
