Considering an upgrade or new build before the next release, what hardware would be needed to run Ultra settings affordably? Current setup includes a Core2Quad Q6600, 6GB DDR2 RAM, and an HD 6870 GPU.

I recommend a 960 upon release or 970, though a 760 might work. We won't know until closer to the launch, so grab the best card you can afford.

They're sticking with the Unreal 3 Engine for a reason. It seems likely they'll continue this approach across the series, especially if you didn't encounter issues with Arkham City or Arkham Origins. Still, it's hard to say more until the game drops.

Thanks for the feedback. I managed to run smoothly at around 30-40fps in Arkham City Origins, but I suspect my CPU might be the main issue. Any advice would be appreciated.

Reminder, the game has been postponed once more until midway through next year.

From some CPU benchmarks I've noticed for Arkham Origins (for example), I’d still focus on upgrading your graphics card first. The best choice really depends on the resolution and frame rate you want to achieve. If you're targeting 1080p at 60 FPS, an R9 280 would be a solid starting point, while the GTX 970 would be the pricier option I’d suggest. I’m not recommending anything for a game that hasn’t been released yet, but it’s a good time to upgrade your graphics card.

It seems you're considering whether the Q6600 from 2008 can handle modern gaming demands. Let's break it down—1080p at 60fps is a solid target, and keeping your graphics card choices in mind will help.

In that CPU test you referenced, every processor they evaluated down to the Athlon II X2 265 achieved 59 FPS or higher. Your model would sit somewhere between the Phenom II X2 and the Phenom II X4/X6 on that scale. With a target of 60 FPS, your Q6600 isn’t reaching the top of its performance potential in Arkham Origins. On the flip side, looking back at the GPU evaluations, the HD 6870 struggled to hit even 60 FPS at 1680x1050 in one of the tests. That suggests it would likely perform even worse at 1080p. There’s definitely space to upgrade the GPU, but if you’re considering a change, the graphics card should still come first. Also, Arkham Knight remains largely unproven, especially since it’s still based on the same engine. I’d probably hold off unless you’re serious about improving it.

Absolutely, I understand. I could wait or upgrade just in case the release date for Arkham Knight changed again. Honestly, I’ve had some issues with my current system while running games, so it’s hard to say I’m in the best shape. Still, I’ll hold off on splurging for now. Thanks for checking out the link—I found it really helpful, though I remember FPS dropping when I turned on DirectX 11 for Arkham City and Origins.
