I purchased most components for my PC, except the CPU (R5 3600) and the motherboard. With the B550 pricing details out, should I opt for a budget X570 such as the MSI A-Pro (€170), a more affordable B550 like the MSI A-Pro (€160), or invest in a B550 tomahawk (€200)? I’m leaning toward aesthetics over performance since I won’t use those features. My goal is a 500-series board for future CPU upgrades to the 5000 series. I plan to use an MSI Gaming Trio RTX 2070S and Corsair Vengeance RGB 16GB 3200mhz CL16. Thanks ahead!
The 500-series motherboard isn't compatible with Ryzen 5000 series since it uses a different socket—AM5. You can still upgrade to Ryzen 4000 models. Choose a board that matches your requirements. B550 boards were initially more expensive than B450 ones due to added features, but their VRMs are superior (some had 8+ phases vs. 3 or 4 on B450). Manufacturers now see B550 as suitable for high-end builds where X570's extra parts aren't necessary. B550 sits between mid-range and X570, not strictly low to mid. For a balanced option, opt for a reasonably priced B550 alongside a budget X570. Alternatively, consider newer B450 boards like the MSi 'MAX' board.
They confirmed earlier, agreeing to back AM4 through the 5000 series (which includes these models). Thanks for your assistance. If they won’t adopt Zen 4 in the B550, I might consider a B450 Tomahawk Max instead.
No official announcement has been made, yet it seems likely AMD will transition to a new platform featuring Zen 4 (Ryzen 5000). I wouldn't rely on support and view it as fortunate if assistance is available somehow.
The Ryzen 5000 series is expected to receive DDR5 memory and USB 4.0 capabilities. These features should be available on Zen 3 or Zen 4 platforms, with a timeline targeting 2022. This is the most updated roadmap AMD has shared recently.
So here I am, a bit confused about skipping the B450 Tomahawk in favor of the B550. I already own most parts except the CPU and motherboard. Probably choosing the B450 because it’s 80€ cheaper and won’t give me any edge since I won’t need the 5000 series support. Thanks everyone!
