Hi, I'm organizing my components for my first PC build and seeking some guidance. I'm leaning toward a smaller 1TB M.2 drive, followed by a larger M.2 drive for games and other uses, and possibly a non-SSD SATA drive for video and game files. For game storage, like Steam games I haven't played yet, I'd prefer to move them to the M.2 drive before playing. Would a Gen5 drive be suitable for booting or would it cause issues such as overheating or higher failure rates?

Here is the complete proposed parts list you requested. Start with: *How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice* How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice First, acknowledge the proper context – this adaptation comes from the Animal's *How To Ask For New Build Advice* Sticky. I developed it since many users are seeking upgrade guidance on both this platform and the CPU forums, and I believe... forums. A Gen 5 SSD is perfectly suitable for your operating system drive.

Useful? It could make your wallet a bit lighter.
I wouldn't expect much difference when booting with a SATA SSD versus a Gen 5 drive.

Unless you intend to keep 4 TB or more of games and/or video files, there’s really little need for multiple drives. Just purchase a big Gen4/5 PCIe storage device and you’re good to go. Your system will start up and load content much quicker.

Approximate Purchase Date: anytime now
Budget Range: £1500-£2000
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Internet browsing with multitasking, watching movies and videos, games
Are you buying a monitor: Yes but not included in budget
Parts to Upgrade: alll
Do you need to buy OS: No
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: anything uk based
Location: UK
Parts Preferences: AMD CPU
Overclocking: Maybe
Multiple GPUs: No
Your Monitor Resolution: Potential 1440p or 4k
Additional Comments: current expected build : amd 9800x3d,5070ti or 9070 xt, 64 gb ram, 1000w psu
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: current pc is 8 years old and cannot do what i need it to do.
I have many games in my Steam library and my internet speed is not great so better to have games already stored on the hard drive amd i don’t think I can afford a really bit m.2 drive so maybe need a non-ssd drive to store the games and then move to m.2 to play them.

I shared the same thoughts as you and have a pcie5 ssd with windows and a pcie4 ssd for games and other tasks, but it turned out to be a total waste of money. Neither one is significantly faster than the pcie3 ssd in my previous setup. If you need multiple ssd’s, just opt for decent ones with plenty of storage instead of extremely fast ones that won’t be noticed as being super quick. For video or sound editing, you might notice a difference with faster ssd’s, but for games they’re not really helpful. I get impressive benchmark results though.

Thank you for the responses. I believe an air cooler would be better for my CPU, considering the Thermalright Pretor 130 or the Thermalright Royal Knight that aids in RAM clearance. Does anyone have any experience with these options?
