Considered the setup: CPU with Prime95, Aida64, OCCT (2019 linepack), RAM via HCI memtest, overall memory and threads minus open windows, GPU using Unigine Superposition, and an AMD R5 1600. Time estimate needed for testing.

I’ve heavily utilized Handbrake or Folding@Home for over a week (without being active) and there was no shutdown time involved.

These options seem reasonable overall. For RAM, memtest86 is highly regarded as one of the top tools. Superposition performs well with the GPU. Prime95 typically needs about 20 minutes for most cases. The other CPU tests also require similar durations. I'm not entirely confident about RAM, but at least 20 minutes should suffice. Running Superposition for around 30 seconds should be sufficient. You're free to extend these tests as needed.

I mainly choose my overclocks based on game performance. I start with Cinebench R15 for CPUs. Once that reaches its limit, I run Prime95 without AVX briefly to check peak temperatures—usually it stays around 20°C above my game temps. If it goes higher, I move straight into testing. My i7 8086k with 5GHz and 5.1GHz across all cores works fine, so I’m satisfied. The i7 8700k on the same board stays stable at 4.7 across all cores even though it could hit 4.9 in those tests. For GPUs, I use Heaven or Valley inside a window to fine-tune overclocks alongside TimeSpy and FireStrike. Superposition is also in use, but I haven’t experienced any freezes. Currently, my Control game dictates GPU settings. Previously it was Fallout 4; both games freeze when the overclock surpasses those limits. Reducing the overclock slightly resolves the issues. I have these presets saved in Pressission X1 so I can pick them before playing. If I forget, the default is the Control setting, which is 17MHz below Fallout 4’s and 3MHz below my maximum. For VRAM overclocks, I rely on Heaven looping. The VRAM on my RTX 2080 can handle up to 20°C above its temperature and VRM readings. This heat accumulates over time, so I test for about four hours. A suitable card with built-in heat sensors, like the EVGA FTW3 Ultra, is ideal. RAM isn’t an issue right now; I just enable XMP and proceed. When I was on Z170 with a i7 6700k, I had to adjust manually because XMP caused freezes in certain titles. I stick with the same RAM in my Z370 builds, so I attribute the problems to the motherboards.

Use Prime95 with a small FFT for up to 24 hours; limit to 12 hours max and avoid overnight use. Run memtest86 afterward. Spend time playing many games, then let your computer rest during the night before waking in the morning. I've noticed unstable OC systems crashing under these conditions. Afterward, compress a single game clip in Handbrake for about 2 hours.

Based on YouTube benchmarks, I noticed that Rainbow Six: Siege, Mafia 3, and Dying Light all demand significant CPU power. I might try testing some of them, though I don’t really enjoy battle royale games.

Run every game you had access to, excluding just one particular title. Let your computer operate under normal settings, then place it to sleep for an extended duration before restarting.
