Having four RAM slots would be helpful, though I’m not sure my mom will ever require 32GB of RAM. Just opt for the most affordable board you can find.

MSI B450-A Pro supports VGA. If you require 32GB, it’s probably not worth looking at a 2200GB option.

Looking for the most affordable option with four RAM slots? This model offers DVI and HDMI ports instead of an AMD motherboard. It’s designed for HP RZK8 and Gigabyte B450M DS3H micro ATX boards.

The price varies by location and availability. Near a microcenter you might find a Ryzen 1600 for $80, plus a motherboard with a $20 discount, giving the CPU for $60—similar to a 2200G. You can then purchase a $10 video card on eBay. A 3000GB drive should cost between $50 and $60 and it’s overclockable slightly better than the 2200G. You already have this model for $60: ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0 Socket AM4/ AMD Promontory B450/ DDR4/ SATA3&USB3.1/M.2/A&GbE/MicroATX A320, which could be 5-10$ cheaper on other sites but isn’t worth it. You can add two 16GB RAM sticks, though your mom will be okay with just 16GB total.

I don’t require much. My mom is in her 60s and uses this C2D system for about ten years. I just needed to reserve two spots far into the future so I can easily add a 3600 whenever it’s affordable.

The nearest microcenter is about 45 minutes away, and I’m not sure if it’s worth spending 90 minutes on the Chicago expressway just to save around $20. I just bought a used 2200g to skip the drive. I’ve always wanted to go, but I’ll likely wait until weed becomes legal.

You can operate in one channel, but expect a reduction of 5-15%. A Ryzen 1600 remains quicker than a 2200G with a single stick if the motherboard offers just two slots and you need space.

You already have a 16GB setup. At $50 it makes sense. Probably 2x16 units will be reasonably priced before it's needed, or we might all end up gone.
