my new gpu needs a 6 and an 8 pin connector but my power supply only has 3 6 pin connectors. could i modify one of the 6 pin connectors into a 2 pin connector so there would be two 6 pins and two 2 pins?

Hello, it's important to note that changing a 6 pin to a 2 pin isn't advised due to power variations. It's better to replace your power supply to ensure proper GPU support and prevent any harm or issues.

There are methods to modify two 6-pin connectors into one 6+2 connector. However, this approach is not advised because these inexpensive adapters often fail to work properly—sometimes they melt, and in worse cases, they can cause damage. If a GPU needs a 6-pin connector but the PSU only offers 6-pin PCIE connectors, it's usually outdated or of poor quality, making this a risky choice.

I had no control over what was installed on my PC since I didn't purchase or assemble it, so I'm completely unsure. I just know it's a high-end model.

Sorry, but we'd absolutely need specific make/model of ALL of the parts in question.
Without that, recommending anything is just irresponsible.

The details are crucial. You need to evaluate them on your own.
