My USB devices frequently disconnect and freeze during gaming and even while typing. I suspected a connection problem with this component, but all the videos I viewed suggested fixing it by adjusting two BIOS settings. One involved switching PCIE mode from auto generation 4 to generation 3 and turning off global C state. I applied both changes and the issue didn’t improve. I also tried flipping the chipset from Gen 4 to Gen 3, but it still didn’t resolve the problem. I have all the motherboard drivers and chipset drivers up to date, including the BIOS. I’m unsure how to proceed and can’t find any other solutions online. Every forum post and video I watch focuses on Gen 3 and C state, and I’m hesitant to return my motherboard and CPU.

We need complete details about the system, including power supply unit specs. Earlier models might have had an EHCI hand-off setting, possibly XHCI now—check if you still have it. This is the main configuration besides C-States that influences USB behavior, aside from USB Charge On during shutdown, which isn't a concern here. Regarding PCIe mode, it's determined by your graphics card, but I don't have enough info since you didn't share the details.

Your CPU works with DDR4 only up to 3200mhz. The 800mhz boost from OC adds about a 25% improvement, making the system respond roughly 2.5% quicker. Worth it? Try lowering the RAM speed and check if the issue improves.

2) It's uncertain whether a BIOS update will fix USB problems, but it's worth a shot if your system came with outdated firmware.

3) Turning off Eco/Sleep/Green features (C-states) can help with this kind of situation. Also disable sleep and hibernation settings in Windows, and ensure the performance power profile doesn’t put USBs to sleep when idle.

4) There’s no clear need to change PCIe modes for USB issues.

5) Confirm your MSI drivers are downloaded from the official MSI site. Avoid using generic Microsoft drivers, as they might interfere with hardware functionality. (Device Manager) This can simplify installing an OS but isn’t ideal for MSI drivers. You may find devices or features missing in Device Manager.
