In the last two weeks I've experienced frequent drops in my connection every few minutes, lasting about 5 to 10 seconds. My ping often jumps to around 1k. Could this be related to my internet service or my PCI Wi-Fi adapter? I’ve owned the same adapter for five years now, and even then it was shared with a friend, so I’m concerned it might be failing completely. P.S. I’m using a wireless connection.

We don’t have enough details to conclude. Additional information is required: What wireless router or AP model are you using? Do you face these issues when connected directly to the router? Which ISP do you use and what speeds are you billed for? How close are you to the wireless router? Are there obstacles like walls or floors, or other sources of RF interference? Is anyone else on the network at the same time that causes the same problems? Please run the WiFi Analyzer app (from Microsoft Store or Google Play) and share screenshots of the ‘Networks’ and ‘Analyze’ sections for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, clearly showing your SSID.
