I assembled this system using an ASUS Hero Z790 chipset, 64 GB RAM, a MSI Gaming Trio 4070 graphics card with 12 GB of memory, and a ASUS 4K XG32UQ display connected via a DP cable. Occasionally, between 1 to 5 times a day, Windows 11 Pro displays a warning about possible display connection limitations. General troubleshooting steps include power cycling the device, verifying settings, inspecting the cable, and trying disconnect-wait-reconnect. I reached out to MSI, who advised returning the graphics card and issued a refund. Subsequently, I bought a Zotac Gaming 4070 graphics card and replaced the original DP cable with one that secures both ends. Despite this change, notifications persist. I’ve been communicating with ASUS about potential display issues. I attempted to overclock the monitor to a 160 Hz rapid refresh rate, which appears to have lessened the frequency of those alerts, though they still occur. Could anyone clarify why these Windows notifications keep appearing? On diagnostics, there’s no visible video degradation or glitches— the display remains clear and consistent. Additionally, I’m curious if this relates to the NVidia Control Panel settings. One possibility is enabling G-SYNC with specific options: either for full screen mode or for windowed and full screen mode. So I’m wondering whether the system switches between these modes, which might be causing the DP connection limitation warning.

You're encountering issues with DisplayPort and a 4K screen. The supported settings limit you to 4K/120 without DSC, which might explain the problem. It could be related to how your monitor handles DSC and overclocking it to 160Hz. Also, HDR might play a role. You should probably switch to HDMI instead of DP for this setup.

I'll say up front, your suggestion is better than any response I've received from ASUS, who seems to be treating me like a fly. I keep sending in suggestions and they just say keep it coming or take a screen shot of the windows notification. ASUS told me to put the monitor into the 160hz overclocked mode. Out of the box the display uses 143hz (news to you). So, I received the Windows notifications while configured at the lower refresh. HDMI is 144hz, which would correspond to the display's native resolution. The thing is, the DP can also display 144hz. So, I can try the HDMI cable, but that would not explain what is happening. I've tried HDR 10 on/off with no effect.

If you wish to keep it connected to DP, it would be wise to try it at 4k/120hz to check for any differences (it wouldn't require DSC for this). Also, avoid HDR during this testing. HDMI 2.1 will allow native playback without compression at any capable refresh rate in 4k resolution.

It's definitely worth giving it a shot, especially since I don't usually ignore Windows alerts. Thanks once more.
