Connection speed drops significantly after several hours of use.
I recently chose to use a VPN because a friend received an 800$ settlement for file sharing. I picked Mullvad VPN since it was affordable and didn’t require a long commitment. Regarding the issue, I was downloading a large file overnight and found it downloading at 300b/s down from 1.5-2MB/s yesterday. I thought it might be just the torrent slowing down, but loading a webpage took several minutes, so I ran a speed test. It was around 3Mb/s before it dropped. Restarting the VPN resolved the problem, and now I’m getting about 100/10, which matches my plan cost. This has occurred twice in a week while using it intermittently for a few hours. I’m on Windows 10 Home with WireGuard and IPv6 disabled. Anyone know what might be causing this? If I don’t fix it soon, I’ll switch to another VPN next month. Any suggestions would be helpful. I’m also considering PIA RN as it’s one of the cheapest options on its two-year plan. I added a small note: today I tried switching servers without disconnecting, but it didn’t work—only a full disconnect and reconnect fixed it.
You’re exploring various server locations and countries for a non-business VPN. It’s good to compare performance across different servers and regions. Remember, this advice is about improving speed and reliability—it doesn’t endorse any specific activity.
I configured it to link with up to ten servers in my local area, so the connection time is minimal when switching. This issue occurred twice across various servers. I should have mentioned this earlier, but today I attempted to change to another server without disconnecting, and it didn’t work. Only a complete disconnect and reconnect resolved it. Of course, I’m currently downloading Linux ISO files.
