I recently experienced a sudden drop in internet speed about a week ago. I attempted various troubleshooting steps, including adjusting DNS settings and resetting both my network and router. Changing Ethernet cables didn’t resolve the issue, and even connecting another device worked fine. My desktop now loads pages in under a second, whereas before it took longer for searches and videos to load. I suspect the problem lies with my computer rather than the internet or router, but I’m still unsure what’s causing it. I’ve shared my speed test results, though I’m not confident in the site’s reliability.

Attempt to start from a live Linux disk, appears to be an unusual software problem. Consider reinstalling Windows as well.

I experienced the same issue recently. Was there a Windows update? My internet was already slow, but now it won’t load more than two tabs here without freezing if I’m using Spotify or have Discord open.

I’ll start with the Windows version first, since I’m not familiar with a Live Linux Disk. A quick search should help me understand what I need to do. Thanks for checking in if issues continue.

I don't know if my Windows is up to date, and I'm not concerned about updates since I've never had any issues.

You typically operate Linux using a USB flash drive. Starting from the USB, it launches into Linux for testing. Normal speeds indicate your Windows setup might be damaged.

I don't believe a fresh or live Linux setup is required. Are you certain the Ethernet cable connecting your PC to the router is in good shape? Verify it isn't the source of the issue. If the problem persists, try booting from a USB drive running live Linux or Windows to test and identify if the issue lies with Windows. Check your actual speeds on speedtest.net—what are typical results? Do you notice packet loss and high latency consistently? Open the command prompt and run "ping google.com" to see if packet loss exists and whether latency is problematic.
