Connection loss on Ethernet occurs, switches switch to WiFi unpredictably.
Hello everyone, thank you for taking the time to review my post. I’m looking for your thoughts on this problem. Essentially, my Ethernet connection sometimes drops to internet and then switches to Wi-Fi because it loses the LAN connection. I’ve tried updating the Intel Pro drivers and turned off the energy-saving features, but nothing seems to fix the issue. My motherboard also reported the same thing, and it doesn’t affect other PCs either. I’ve also set up Windows and formatted the drive. I’m unsure what else I should try and would really appreciate any guidance. Thanks for your help.
Turn off Wi-Fi completely to check the LAN first for clearer results. Otherwise, your PC might temporarily resolve the issue. It seems like a DHCP issue or a switch problem. Disconnect the Wi-Fi and connect the Ethernet cable directly to the router—remove any other Ethernet connections. Still losing signal?
I made sure the WiFi was turned off and experimented with various switches and a direct connection to the router. Unfortunately, these steps don’t fix the problem—it still randomly disconnects. I’m not sure what’s causing it since I disabled the energy-saving or sleep settings for Ethernet via Intel ProSet options and set my PC to maximum performance in power mode.
Ensure you run the same test on another PC. If problems continue, the DHCP configuration on the router might be faulty. Once resolved, the issue likely lies in the laptop's chip (update BIOS if needed).
Sorry for the delayed response; I’ve been trying a few things with minimal adjustments. I added a manual DHCP address for my Ethernet connection to avoid that problem, but it didn’t help. All other devices are affected only on my desktop. I’ve tried various drivers and already replaced my motherboard.
It's highly probable the internet chip in your motherboard is faulty, which is why you should have submitted a return request while you were waiting.
