Connection becomes unexpectedly sluggish.
Recently, over the past week, my internet connection has become extremely slow. I’m using a VDSL2 connection via Century Link with a Zyxel C3000Z modem/router (not a rental; we purchased it when we moved in). The neighborhood is roughly 21 to 25 years old. I attempted a reboot of the modem/router, but nothing changed. Now I suspect either the DSL line entering my house or the modem itself may be faulty. For reference, here’s the status data from the modem/router:
- DSL Line 1: Unavailable
- Seconds since reboot: 223 (approx. startup time)
- Estimated loop length: 2670 feet
- SNR: 7.3 dB (down), 6.7 dB (up)
- Attenuation: 17.5 dB (down), 8.2 dB (up)
- Power: 17.5 dBm (down), 7.6 dBm (up)
- Near End RS FEC Corrections: 191083
- 30-minute FEC Corrections: 1328
- Far End RS FEC Corrections: 564
- 30-minute FEC Corrections: 10
- 0.25–0.5 miles away (0.402–0.804 km)
Would you consider the modem, the line inside your home, the line in the neighborhood, or somewhere outside that range as the likely source?
Consider reaching out to your ISP if you encounter issues or need assistance with your service.
It seems they should possess the testing tools needed to identify the issue.
