We're setting up a new residence with restricted internet choices. Comcast indicated they'd install cable, but the expense would exceed our budget at around $46,000. Eventually, they plan to extend service to us. Right now we're evaluating several alternatives... DSL offers slow performance and isn't worth it. Telegia fixed wireless provides a 30/5 plan at roughly $160 monthly plus a $200 setup fee. It delivers low latency, minimal packet loss, and only works under very harsh weather conditions (like ice on the tower). We're just two miles away and have a clear line of sight. It guarantees unlimited data and consistent speeds, typically meeting at least the 30/5 requirement with a bit more. Customer support is top-notch. UbiFi uses AT&T's LTE network with a $300 hardware cost and $90 monthly for unlimited data. Cell phone speeds are decent—32/4.5 without a booster, but up to 144/43 when closer to the tower. The tower sits about 1.3 miles away, and a salesperson mentioned AT&T would block any account exceeding 300 gigabytes per month. I'm currently using around 500 gigabytes but can reduce it. My usage includes Overwatch, Modern Warfare, and streaming via Direct TV Now or Sling. The house is wired with Cat6a throughout and routed to a basement rack. Concerns: A straightforward choice would be Telegia fixed wireless because it has no data cap and might offer a more reliable connection, but the cost and speed are limiting factors. LTE could be significantly faster and cheaper, though I'd need to weigh the 300 gig restriction and possible stability issues. Thoughts?

300 Gigabytes or gigabits? One is significantly smaller than the other. “Gig” is an unclear term, and it can create confusion for customers.

The 300GB is clearly a concern, as data caps aren't typically measured in gigabits. LTE often suffers from high latency and poor availability.

Phone data is typically measured in gigabits, according to what I’ve observed. There were some complaints about it, but it might be worth investigating further.

Never encountered anything like that before in any of the places I've visited.

300 gigabytes is quite a lot. Is LTE really suitable for gaming? I've noticed varied opinions that usually match the quality of service available.

It really varies depending on the service level. However, performance can change significantly based on local activity. When I'm using my phone while traveling, I often experience strong 4G coverage but slow data speeds or no signal at all. They offer a trial, so you can test it in your area to see how it works.

Visited the USA before? One of those complaints came from me. As I mentioned, maybe they’re not doing it anymore.
