I purchased a Ryzen 3600 for 170USD and now need to select a motherboard. I expect Vermeer to arrive next week, allowing me to trade it if the price drops significantly. My current challenge is deciding which board to buy. I plan to use it with an 1060 graphics card, an 850W Seasonic PSU, two 8GB RAM slots, and the Corsair Vengeance 3200MHz CPU. I don’t play many games but use it for office work and browsing. Initially, I thought about the Gigabyte B550-DS3H, but I also want a path to upgrade to Vermeer with Zen4. Ideally, I’d aim for a 16-core, 32-thread board and keep the same motherboard. I came across the MSi Tomahawk B550, which features powerful VRMs. I’m sensitive to chipset fans from the early 2000s. Which option should I choose?
You should avoid using that on a DS3H. These options are all great and will easily support an overclocked 16-core setup like the MSI B550 Tomahawk, Gigabyte B550 B550 Aorus Master, Asus B550 Strix-E, or the cheaper alternatives such as the ASUS B550 TUF plus Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro (ATX only) and MSI B550 Mortar.
What’s the budget? Where is it from and what’s the unit? Why does it cost 300 dollars or 550 dollars? It’s a solid board, but it seems excessive in every aspect.
