Your internet speed could improve noticeably by using Ethernet to connect your PC to a Google Wi-Fi hotspot. Since you're linking directly to the access point rather than the primary router, the connection should be more stable and faster.

The best way to confirm would be to run a test. Many factors could influence performance, either lowering or raising results. With a 5.0GHz connection and strong signal, direct routing should keep latency low—perhaps around 3–5ms. At 2.4GHz, expect noticeable delays, likely pushing ping higher than usual (30–50ms or more).

If the device you're using is linked to the parent wired node, your connection might perform better. In my experiments, Speedtest.net showed 18ms over Ethernet compared to 23ms over WiFi when both were connected to the same wireless node in a mesh setup with a "Great" rating. If your rating falls below "Great," your ping will be noticeably affected.
