Hello everyone. I just received a 2060 super and currently have this setup: I5 6600 Z170 (compatible with DDR3 RAM, 16GB RAM). I'm considering an upgrade to something like I5 9400F B360 with 16GB DDR4. My questions are: Is this combination suitable? Should I pick a different option? Since I won't be overclocking, is going for an I5 9600K worth the extra cost? My main use is gaming, and I have a 27-inch 144Hz monitor. I want the best possible resolution and FPS. Please advise.

Opt for better performance and savings by choosing the R5 3600 on a B450.

Thank you for your prompt response. I've noted the AMD performance concerns but prefer sticking with INTEL.

Why? Spending more for a less capable product doesn't seem like smart money use. Intel makes sense only when you can afford the high-end CPUs like i7 9700K or i9 9900K and pair them with a much faster GPU that can fully leverage the CPU's strengths, such as a 2080 Super or 2080 Ti. Anything below that and AMD becomes the clear better option in both value and performance.

However, single-core performance often matters more for gaming. Also, the price of Intel is lower in my country.

The variation is around 60-70 euros. Including another 30-40 euros brings the total to a solid b360.

That's the initial thought that comes to mind unless 2080Ti appears in the title.

even with a 2080Ti I’d choose an i5 9400F ^^ a 9700K or 9900K ^^ sure, but for solid everyday performance I’d prefer my 3600 all day if you can save a lot by going Intel. Of course, if you’re okay with a 3600 plus a b450 board only costs an extra 20-30 bucks, that path might be worth it depending on where you live and how prices look. Just to give you an idea of the situation.
