You can try recovering the key by using a tool that connects to both drives. Since your local drive works but the external one doesn’t show anything, check if the external drive is properly connected and recognized. You might need to format the external drive first or use a recovery software that supports multiple partitions. If you installed ProduKey, ensure it’s compatible with the external drive’s file system. Let me know what OS you’re using and I can give more specific steps. Thanks!

Do you possess the COA or a receipt containing the product key? Additionally, what is the age of your computer? Modern systems using UEFI BIOSes typically embed the product key in the BIOS and enable it automatically upon Windows installation.

He assembled this using an old spare key he had, which isn’t very recent. The system runs Windows 10 or 8.1, but the motherboard is quite outdated and the BIOS only shows a text interface. After installing Windows, it didn’t boot automatically. I have the hard drive with Windows 10, though it needs a fresh install.

You can simply reinstall it if it's running Windows 10. It will start up automatically. You need to get the key by booting into Windows with the correct code (according to some sources).
