Confusion about USB 3.2 Gen 2 headers on motherboards
Hello, I’m considering purchasing a new mobile phone. The model caught my attention: ROG Strix X570-E Gaming Gigabyte X570 AORUS ULTRA. What’s confusing is the differing information from the manufacturers. Asus claims it has an internal 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 (up to 10Gbps) port, whereas Gigabyte states it features a USB Type-C™ port with USB 3.2 Gen 2 support. Are these ports and connectors identical? I’m also interested in the fractal design meshify S2 case, which includes a front USB Type-C port.
They're talking about the same concept, though the header might also apply to USB A ports. The main point is clear.
USB 3.2 Gen 2 needs a USB-C port, which means Gigabyte’s choice is almost unnecessary since they’re essentially the same product. They both serve as headers on the board for connecting to your case’s I/O panel. If you don’t have USB-C, you can still work with any standard USB 3 connector, though you’ll miss out on Gen 2 capabilities.
