Imagine you've altered your CPU and GPU to push their performance beyond limits, then reformatted your hard drive and installed a brand new operating system. This would essentially reset everything back to its original state, as the system would recognize the changes and revert to defaults.

A discreet malware cannot achieve this; you can switch to dual boot, perform a scan, and then eliminate the threat.

You can install Linux on a different drive and start your PC in Linux while keeping Windows running, allowing scans to detect threats without interference. That malware won’t hide if it affects power or puts too much strain on your system. Note: If you use Avast, a boot-time scan could also work effectively because it runs before the virus can activate.

Viruses lack the ability to perform that action.
