there’s no built-in feature in Windows 11 that forces a password for deleting folders during a shift delete. However, you can set up folder-level protection using the built-in file and folder permissions or third-party tools. For regular or shift delete, you can configure the security settings to require confirmation before deletion. Specific folders can also be restricted with advanced permissions controls.

Avoid forcing yourself to hold Shift-Del. It’s a mistake you should avoid. The solution isn’t to keep write access to folders yourself, but to restrict permissions to a specific admin account you don’t use regularly.

You need to clarify your situation. I’m here to help, but I require details about your work environment or tasks that led to the Shift-Del training.

I've been using it since I first learned it in 2010, probably when I got internet at home.

Recycle Bin options allow you to confirm deletions before finalizing. For years I kept the recycle bin off because it felt unpredictable. Now defaults handle deletions instantly, which feels unsafe. Windows has offered a confirmation dialog for deleting files for many years. It remains unchanged since at least XP, and even going back to Windows 95 on Windows 11, you can adjust settings via the Recycle Bin menu, properties, and toggle the confirmation box. Under that, you can pick custom sizes or turn it off entirely. There’s a checkbox for showing the delete confirmation. This setup ensures you always get permission before removing files. While Shift+Del works, disabling the recycle bin provides a clearer, safer experience.

The only thing on my desktop is the recycle bin... the ultimate challenge of losing my valuable mods instead of renaming or copying them... Yet I think you're overlooking the bigger picture... maybe op should cut down on shiftdel spam, but what about other situations where it's the smaller issue, like a grumpy partner... It would be great to have password protection for those who need it!

NTFS permissions are designed for that, but in practice... account management serves a similar purpose. It’s about securing access when someone else might try to change things, whether they’re trying to do it intentionally or not. Just lock the system when you’re away and ensure the right account owns what matters.

You received an excellent answer with AutoHotkey. It works perfectly now.
