Hello, I’m using an Elgato 4K60 setup. When I switch to game mode and press alt+tab, my gaming PC sometimes crashes entirely. Previously, booting up caused it to freeze and display a black screen unless I unplugged the HDMI cable connected to the Elgato 4K60. I resolved this by reinstalling Windows. After a crash, I noticed in Event Viewer an error: the application-specific permission setting denied local activation for the COM server application, citing numerous numbers. Event 14 and Event 153 were recorded. My gaming PC runs with RTX 4090, 9800x3d, 32GB RAM, streaming via RTX3070, i9-13900K.

I tried a different HDMI cable to check for issues. There might be interference from CEC settings affecting your computer's power cycles, especially when playing on devices like Blu-ray or TV. Intel's HDCP protection could also be the cause, even though it’s usually for games. Things can go wrong with copy protection at any time. Good luck!

Some HDMI cables should work with your setup. The one you have with the 4K60 Elgato capture card is likely compatible. CEC stands for Controller Extension, a feature that lets devices communicate with each other.

Any cable is acceptable for testing; the most likely outcome is losing the picture. The aim is to verify the cable isn’t contributing to your problem. This resource should clarify more clearly than you: https://www.nakamichi-usa.com/what-is-hdmi-cec. CEC is generally not applied to PCs, yet my ASUS 3060ti can manage my LCD TV via CEC. You should likely adjust CEC in the NVIDIA control settings.
