Configure daily full backups from your Windows 10 machine to your Free-NAS server.
I just set up a NAS using Free-NAS and need a complete backup of all my files and folders to another custom server. I want to ensure everything is saved on both C and D drives for at least a year, preserving up to 50 versions of any file if needed. If you can help, that would be really helpful since I'm just starting with Free-NAS.
You can utilize Windows backup features to save data to a network location. For the 50 versions, you’ll need a setup solution. On Linux you can handle it yourself if you remember, but on Windows you’ll rely on third-party tools. My preferred method isn’t fully automated. I usually create monthly backups by compressing the drive’s contents into a 7-Zip file and sending it to my NAS. It takes a few hours, but it’s faster than sending many small files. The benefit is quicker transfers overall. Be aware you’ll require substantial storage to maintain all these copies.
It supports intelligent backups, letting you store text files and make changes. You can edit them and apply those updates without saving the entire file each time. If you don’t modify them that day, you can still configure it to preserve only the changes made.
