Hello,
I have prepared a draft for a Windows 11 desktop setup and would appreciate your guidance. My objectives are:
- Obtain a future-proof machine lasting up to ten years with minimal upgrades (reason for choosing a new CPU model)
- Achieve a quiet and elegant look while maintaining low power usage
- Perform photo editing using Capture One
- Handle CD/DVD ripping, audio recording with Audacity, and music streaming
- Play occasional strategic or turn-based games such as Age of Wonders 4
The configuration I envision includes:
CPU
: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
Cooler
: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
Motherboard
: Gigabyte B650E Aorus Elite X AX Ice
RAM
: 2x16GB Crucial Pro DDR5-6000 MHz
Power supply
: Corsair RM750x
Display
: ?
Storage
: WD Blue 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, 2 HDDs (already owned)
My questions are:
- Which graphics card would fit well with this build? I’m looking for something affordable (under 300 EUR) with 6 to 8GB of VRAM to run mid to high settings in games?
- Should I consider swapping the Gigabyte B650E Aorus Elite X AX Ice with another motherboard?
- Are there any compatibility concerns I haven’t noticed? Any adjustments I should make to the setup?
Thank you in advance for your advice.
Silent and calm visual styles, focusing on minimal energy use. Noise and design are personal matters. Some individuals can detect the fan motor ticking even at the lowest speed, while others might find it appealing. It's recommended to format your thread with details requested here; *How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice*. Initially, acknowledge the right to respect—this adaptation comes from the Animal's *How To Ask For New Build Advice* Sticky. I developed it since many users are seeking upgrade guidance both on this platform and in CPU forums, and I believe... forums. the community can offer helpful advice. What budgeting plan have you set for the three components still in progress? Where are you based, and which store do you favor for purchases?

What graphics card would fit best with this setup? Aim for 6 to 8GB VRAM to handle mid to high settings in games. I’ve looked at the Fractal Define R5 as case, or the Be Quiet! Silent Base 802. Are these suitable options, or would you recommend alternatives?
Would you consider swapping the Gigabyte B650E Aorus Elite X AX Ice with another motherboard?
Are there any compatibility concerns I overlooked, or adjustments you’d suggest?
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading:
You’re aiming for a future-proof machine that can remain functional for up to ten years with minor upgrades (reason to choose a new CPU model).
Thank you in advance
I've developed a strong affinity for the NZXT H5 Flow $70 model, not the newer 2024 release.
The question asks about potential downsides of purchasing a case released in 2020 or earlier, beyond the lack of a USB-C port. It seeks clarification on other possible drawbacks.
It doesn't have any internal 5.25 drive bays. Most things these days are digital downloads, so cases used to lack 5.25" bays. I'm going back and removing all my DVDs to local storage, using a few external LG DVD drives. It's also handy because I can use it with my laptop.
