From another device on the same network, through DC1 as the main DNS server, I see the same issue. I added the hostname for ecorp.local in my router, and it responds when pinged, but when I take it out of the router—since it isn’t the primary DNS server assigned by DHCP—it stops working.
I received this result. I began anew by setting up a fresh domain and changed the server handling the domain controller: Spoiler
It seems unusual, but the system should attempt alternative DNS if it can't locate the requested entry on the primary one. Perhaps Windows is just following its usual behavior, so check your router's DHCP settings and move the IP for the DHCP server to the top to ensure it's acting as primary.
